Perth’s new $862 million stadium and sporting precinct is currently being built in Burswood on the banks of the Swan River. It is said to be one of the most fan friendly venues in the country.

In July 2007 the Government of Western Australia announced its preference to build a new 60,000 seat stadium rather than develop the Subiaco Oval. The stadium will be 42 metres high and there is a 60,000 seat capacity with 85% of them being undercover, it will be the 2nd largest AFL stadium behind the MCG.

$81.7 million for the project has been set aside for a sports precinct and $16 million has been allocated for the project management. Colin Barnett said to get this project underway there will be over 5700 workers involved in the process to hopefully get done by the 2018 AFL Season.

Over the next year there will be over 2000 piles being driven into the ground around 35 metres deep to support the structure. They will be using more than 10,000 tonnes of structural steel and more than 52,000 cubic metres of concrete.

The design of the new stadium is perfect for fans with disabilities who need special access requirements. There will be wheelchair positions on all levels alongside flexible seats for carers and all ticket windows and retail outlets will also be at a height suitable for wheelchairs.

There will be a transport solution to ensure fans can travel to and from the new Perth Stadium using a range of options. There will be nine times the required permanent parking available also for ACROD card holders.
